Brainstorm: Walk or Run

Listen in RealAudio

Hi, I'm Bryan Yeaton, and this is The Weather Notebook. Today, we have a new Brainstorm for you.

For those of you who don't know what a Brainstorm is all about, here's the scoop: we simply ask a question and you, the listeners, figure out and explain it. Naturally, it is always a weather-related issue, but some of the answers we have received have been quite far ranging and VERY interesting. Creativity does count. And if we use your answer on the air, we will send you a magic Weather Notebook mug, perfect for a hot drink on these cold winter days!

Are you ready? Here we go. Imagine this situation: you're outside walking around when suddenly it begins to rain. There's a stiff following breeze, so that the rain is hitting you at an angle from behind. You don't want to get too wet, but the nearest shelter is some distance away. The question is, will you get less wet if you walk or run to get out of the rain?

So, what do you think? If you think you know the answer and can explain it in 30 seconds or less, let us know. We'll air your answers, and give you the solution on an upcoming program.

To get your answer to us, you can e-mail us at brainstorms@weathernotebook.org or give us a call toll-free at (888) RAIN-001. That's (888) 724-6001. If you want to revisit this question, or get the contact information again, visit us at our website: www.weathernotebook.org.
